This is a great improvement after my old D70S. The Nikon D200 camera is built to last in rough use. Before buying I compared this with Canon 30D and the difference was surprisingly big. Metal versus plastic feeling. I have not found the banding problem (luckily) at all in my D200. It is great as well to have all the customized functions and the fast entry to QUAL, ISO and WB.

Superior build quality, Intuitive, Ergonimic design typical of Nikon, Accurate metering far superior to the competition, Built in flash, Same image processing engine as D2X but with custom built CCD

Extremely fast, excellent control layout, good "control panel screen", excellent capabilities. If you like Nikon's way of doing things, you will love this camera.

Focus system complexity and thus learning curve for some more novice or intermediate users

This first downside is cost, but I do feel it’s a great value for the money (but out of the range of most amateurs). The other problem is file size of RAW images. You’ll need a beefy computer

Expensive, large and heavy, no full-frame sensor
